Creature Comfort Foundation Donates Slumberkins Plushies to UTMB Clear Lake’s Annual Teddy Bear Clinic, Helping Children Learn and Heal Through Play
Houston, TX — July 23, 2025 — Creature Comfort Foundation was honored to support the annual Teddy Bear Clinic at UTMB Clear Lake Campus, donating Slumberkins plush companions to children who attended this unique and educational event.
The Teddy Bear Clinic is a child-friendly health fair that helps ease children’s anxiety about medical settings by letting them role-play as caregivers to their favorite stuffed animals. Children visit booths run by hospital departments—such as radiology, nutrition, and the emergency department—where they learn through hands-on activities, from seeing a portable X-ray machine light up to practicing healthy food choices in interactive games.
This year, thanks to the donation from Creature Comfort Foundation, children didn’t have to bring stuffed animals from home. Each child received their own Slumberkins plushie, creating both a learning tool and a keepsake to bring comfort long after the event.
Regina Burdett, CCLS, who helped organize the event, shared the impact of the donation:
💬 “All the children were so excited to get a Honey Bear. One even said their bear was sick when they arrived and was feeling so much better when they left. Thank you for donating the bears—it was the ‘cherry on top’ of our event.”
UTMB Clear Lake Campus is part of UTMB Health, a leading academic health system in Texas that provides comprehensive care, cutting-edge research, and community-focused health programs. The Teddy Bear Clinic is one of the many initiatives that reflect their commitment to pediatric education and patient-centered care.
Creature Comfort Foundation’s mission is simple but powerful: to bring comfort, courage, and joy to children undergoing medical care. Through partnerships with hospitals and child life specialists across the country, the foundation provides Slumberkins plushies and ComfortKits, filled with sensory tools and activities to reduce stress and create moments of healing connection.
“Small Acts. Big Impact.” Each plushie and ComfortKit is more than just a gift—it’s a tool for emotional resilience, normalcy, and hope during difficult times.
